Homework for Washington Beanie Class:
With MC and US5-16" needles, CO96 stitches
Place a single color marker and join in the round.
Round 1: (K1, P1) repeat to end of round
Repeat Round 1 until work measures 1.5"
Knit one round (just knit, no purls) with larger needle (US7-16") and bring to class.
NOTE: If you already know you are a tight knitter (or just want a larger hat) go up one or two needle sizes for both the ribbing and the body of the hat. If you know you are a very loose knitter, you may want to go down one or two needle sizes. The gauge for this patter is 19 stitches to 4" in stranded stockinette stitch after blocking. You are welcome to swatch if you would like...or just know you will find a head to fit the hat after you finish it! :)

Homework for Highway Hat
Select your size first!
Finished size: Sizes: S (M, L). To fit head circumference: 16-18 (18-22, 22-24)’’ If you are using a light worsted/worsted you will want to knit the size smaller than you would usually choose. Note that because of the incredibly stretchy fabric created by the brioche stitch any hat can be stretched or blocked out to fit most sizes. It will fall to a matter of taste.
HOMEWORK: Using the smaller needle, and CC yarn cast on 102 (114- 126) sts using a looser cast on method (I use long tail cast on over double needles). Join carefully without twisting the stitches and place a marker for beginning of round. Knit ribbing (p1, k2) until work measures 9 cm / 3.5 ’’. Switch to larger needle and work one additional round (p1, k2tog), 34 (38-42) sts reduced. (68 (76-84) sts on needles)
